Notes, Trout flies

Here are some notes I took a while back during a presentation. I just happened across them in my laptop bag pocket and thought I'd post them. Sometimes, that's a good way to listen... just draw away and listen to the lecture.

Really nice sketch! I tie flies sometimes! Once when I was fairly new to fly fishing I was way out in the woods, for a week. The trout were hurling themselves out of the water at these almost white mayflies. I tried everything in my fly box and nothing worked. Trout were nearly landing in my pockets, but would touch my fly. Well I did not have a fly like that that I'd bought, but I'd brought fly tying stuff. But I I was a total newbie at it. Still I tied a REALLY rough fly about the right shade, and I could keep the fish OFF my hook after that! It was so much fun! The three S's of fly tying, size, shape and shade.

Could NOT keep the fish off my hook after that.
